Sesame Street

Okay, now this article is probably tongue in cheek and I'm hoping that this is to point out to society today that we over analyze things way to much, but if it isn't, here comes my rant.

Seriously? Are you people serious? The Sesame Street today should be demolished for what its become. Instead of teaching kids about their imagination and letting their creativity grow, they're filling their heads with things that aren't needed in a fucking five year old. Sesame Street helped us learn our basic numbers and provided us with entertainment when it was first on. Now society is so obsessed with being politically correct though that they've gotten rid of Bert and Ernie, they've taken Snuffleupagus (sp?) away because its not right for a child to have an imaginary friend, and they've made the cookie monster eat healthy foods because they don't want children to become obese. I'm sorry, but when did a show dictate how many fattening foods a child eats? I'm pretty sure that's the parents job to monitor their child’s eating habits and teach them that its unhealthy to overindulge a lot.

Articles like this just makes me so angry towards society. I mean, seriously. A kid is supposed to be a kid. Why do parents have to push them to grow up before their time? When you're four or five, you should have imaginary friends, you should be able to enter into a world that no one else can go. All of this encourages your imagination to grow and if you're creativity is growing then I can guarantee that you're a happier person. But instead we have to push children to grow up far before their time and push them out of the age of innocence as soon as possible because apparently its not safe for a child to be naive anymore. If you ask me, parents need to stop being so scared and instead put their faith in something else. Let your children watch old episodes of Sesame Street and if a question arises about something, answer it and allow them to keep watching it. Don't put them in front of mindless television that sucks the wonder out of being a child. There's plenty of time in their future to discover life, let them when they're still young enjoy a time honored show.

Next thing you know they're going to be telling us that Jim Henson was a pedophile and that shows that Tom and Jerry are teaching children how to become murderers. I'll tell you one thing, when I have children, there's no way in hell I'm allowing them to watch current Sesame Street. They can watch the old ones and be happy. I don't care if its politically incorrect.

Imagine

So I was at Denny’s tonight with a group of friends that I’ve known forever. We were all sitting around, laughing and talking, when “Imagine” came on and I just stopped. I sat back like an observer and watched in slow motion as my friends laughed and joked and it was bittersweet. It was a scene right out of a movie for me as I saw them smile and push each other around, and there was me, sitting with my coffee, remembering how it seemed like only yesterday that we were all out on the playground chasing leprechauns or filming a slasher movie. And all I can think about is that it’s times like this that life is worth it. These are the moments we fight for. We’re not here to discover the divine secret, or for some master plan, we’re here for these little moments where we’re surrounded by the people that we love, and for a few brief seconds, there’s peace.
